I did it. I was rejected. Okay, I wasn’t rejected. My book was rejected. I sent it to 18 agents and 13 rejected it. 5 didn’t respond, which we all know is a rejection. I sent it to 3 publishers. 2 rejected and 1 remained silent. We’ll take silence to mean NO.
These weren’t my first rejections. Lord knows my first book was rejected several times, too. But this time around I’ve made a huge decision. Instead of going with a small press. I’m going with the JKR Press.
That’s right. I’m taking the leap. I’m self-publishing.
I’ve made up my mind. I have a plan. I have a release date.
On October 3, 2013 I’m releasing my first self-published book. I love the date. That’s Eva’s birthday and since it’s her book it only makes sense to launch her story into the universe on 10-03-13. Perfect.
Between now and October 3rd I’ll share my journey each week. The highs, lows, wrong turns, excitement, confusion and laughs.
The first thing I’ll tell you is I have more butterflies and a much bigger lump in my throat about this book than I did when I sold my first book. I need an editor, a cover, character art, a marketing plan, a platform, ads, giveaways. There’s formatting, uploading, publicizing, blogging, proofing, and organizing to consider.

Congrats on your decision to self-publish, Jordan. I wish you much success!
Thanks Mia. So nice of you to stop by. Happy 2013!
Welcome to the Indie party, Jordan. You’re going to do great! Eva is lucky to have you watching her back:-)
Thanks PJ- for everything!
Jordan,
Bravo! I think this is a great step. I too am thinking about self-pubbing for a book I just finished. I’m going to give it until the early summer before tossing in the towel and going the self-pub route. I think if you break it down into small steps that it isn’t so daunting. I look forward to hearing more about your journey.
Thank you for sharing,
Rebecca
Hi Rebecca. Thanks for coming by. I was planning to give Eva until June, but decided to give it a try now. I really wanted to publish another book this year and not let all of 2013 get away from me. Let me know about your decision this summer. I’ll be happy to share anything I learn along the way.
I am considering this as well. What made you decide to take the leap?
Hi Louann. After publishing my first book with a small press and experiencing the complete process of publication I wondered if I could manage the the entire process. Then hearing from so many Indie writers about how they liked having the control and making all the decisions I decided I wanted to make the leap. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
You’re going to do fine, Jordan! I can’t wait to see Eva’s story in print.
Thanks so much Susannah! I’m looking forward to setting her loose!
You’ll do great! The process will be a lot of work, but a lot of fun!
Thanks Jolie. I’m very, very excited. And so far I’ve managed to move ahead with the process and continue to write! Thank God. I was very worried that I’d only be able to manage one but not the other. Jordan
Jordan, I wish you the best of luck. I self-published my three back-list books when I got the rights back from their original publishers. It is SO much fun to control your own cover designs! I worked with a wonderful designer (Lani Diane Rich at Storywonk.com) and just love what we came up with together. You’ll have a great time with it too!
Hi Nancy. Thanks for coming by and for the tip on Storywonk. I’ll keep you posted. Jordan
Good for you!! There have been many success stories from authors with similar reasoning for self-publishing. It’s so nice to have this option now. Good luck!!!
Thanks Jenn. And I love the cover for A Little Bit of Cupid. Cute! Jordan
