Sean T. Poindexter stops by for visit!

Posted by on February 1, 2013

In the past two years that I’ve been with Crescent Moon Press I’ve had the opportunity to meet many wonderful writers whether it be via email loops or in person at conferences. Today I’m thrilled to interview fellow CMP author, Sean T. Poindexter.

What inspired you to become a writer?

I’ve always been writing, as long as I’ve been able to read. I loved telling stories, even as a very young child. During show and tell in second grade I would stand up in front of the class and tell them stories that always started with “I had a dream last night…” I remember the teacher telling me that I should write my stories down.

Who are you currently reading?

Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence.

Do you write with music or background noise or do you prefer silence? If you write with music or noise, what’s your preference?

I always listen to music while I write. I like heavy industrial, gothic metal and some classics like The Cars and David Bowie. I also throw in some eclectic choices like Tom Waits and Emilie Autumn. Since everything I listen to gets scrobbled by Last.fm, I can see what my favorite music choices are. According to Last.fm, my top artists are Combichrist, :Wumpscut:, Gothminister, Bile, and Deathstars.

We’ve often heard people say, “youth is wasted on the young” and “if I could go back, oh, what I’d do.” What do you think? Would you go back and if you could, what age would you go back to?

I wouldn’t mind restarting high school with the confidence and mental balance that I have now. It would have made the whole things much more enjoyable than it was the first time. I’d want to bring copies of my books with me so I wouldn’t have to rewrite them.

(I have to say you’re much more daring than I am. High school is probably the last place I’d go.)

Cats or Dogs- what’s your preference? And do you have any pets now?

Cats. Definitely cats. I have three: Orion, Sif and Thor.

On a dark Ozark highway, two souls meet in tragedy and find their lives are connected to things bigger than them both. Megan Crunk, a social worker from Joplin, uncovers vampires preying on a small community. That same day, she meets Garrett, a fascinating stranger who is clearly more than he seems. But, as Meg slowly learns, so is she.

Garrett Terago is an ancient dragon. Until now, he’s been content with the secluded Ozark mountains. Disguised as a human, but rarely paying them heed, until he meets Megan. He offers her love and protection from the vampires but can he keep her safe from his own kind? War looms between the dragons. Some long for a time lost to prehistory, when they were worshiped as gods, masters of the world. Somehow, Garrett is instrumental to their plans and Megan is in their way.

Darker motives surface as the vampires seek revenge. Max becomes a target in a retributive strike by a pack of vampires hoping for advancement, but they may have bitten off more than they can chew. Good morning Sean! Thanks so much for coming on the blog today. It was great to learn a little bit more about you. I’m especially impressed that you’d go back to high school. It takes a brave man to want to relive those years. :) Jordan

Great interview! Hey Sean, I’ve always had three cats (until very recently) and it seems the best mix. Cats rule, dogs drool!!

Hi Pat! My poor Dino- I love the dog writing partner. No cats for me!

  3. Wendy S. Russo

I’m with you, Sean. I often think about how different high school would be if I had the confidence and the knowledge I do now. I need a copy of Will of the Darkest One for my signed shelf.

Hey Wendy. Thanks for coming by. I’m a moving forward sort of girl. I wouldn’t want to go back to any point. I want to see what’s coming!

  • About Me

I’ve always loved vampire stories, but I didn’t always want to be a writer. In fact, I never really thought about it at all until just a few years ago when I spent my free time during the months of November and December reading everything from Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Series to Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse Novels to the first three books of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. Then the desire to tell my own stories came to me, sneaking up from the depths of my mind, almost like a master vampire stalking his prey. And once I sat at the keyboard, there was no denying my need to write.
